Oliver began studying macrobiotics and shiatsu at the Kushi Institute in London in 1980, and then studied extensively in Europe and America. In 1984 he moved to the south west of England where he has been teaching and practicing ever since.

In 1985 he established the Devon School of Shiatsu, which has been running a three-year training since 1990 and has trained many shiatsu practitioners. Due to his own emotional struggles he began rebirthing, counseling and past life healing in the early 1990’s, and later did training in these therapies, which he now incorporates into his health consultations and teaching.

In 2003 he founded the Holistic Cooking School, which offered introductory courses in healing with food, cooking, and emotional work, and in 2006, together with Marijke de Conink, established the International Macrobiotic School and its groundbreaking three and a half year professional training programme. The Holistic Cooking School merged with its sister school in 2011 and is now known as the International Macrobiotic School.

Maria has been in the healing profession for over thirty years, initially training as a paediatric nurse in Spain. In 1984 she started to practice and study Macrobiotics and Yoga. She was so inspired by her new way of living that she decided to study body energetics in greater depth and moved to London.

She is passionate about the understanding of health and well-being from the energetic and emotional viewpoints and lays great stress on natural methods of healing. Macrobiotic cooking and nutrition, home-remedies, yoga, shiatsu, healing, movement, philosophy and Interior Alignment for over 30 years, in many countries. With this experience Anna teaches all aspects of cooking and philosophy and co-runs workshops to encourage a healthy, happy life at any age. She is also an Okido Yoga teacher; this includes Hatha Yoga but fundamental to the Okido approach is life in co-operation with other people.

The consultations and coaching that Anna gives are tailored to each individual, attending to the body, mind and soul being in harmony on the particular life path. This she feels is the fun of the big life view!

Macrobiotic values are strong basis for a peaceful, healthy, ecological and sustainable future. It is fundamental that we all value organic farmers as highly as pharmacists, and value organic food as crucial for world health and world prosperity. Anna loves gardening, dancing, is widely travelled, and Chaired the MBA for many years. She is grateful to all her teachers at the Kushi Institute in London and Switzerland and America and feels Nature is also a great teacher.

ANNA FREEDMAN

Health Coach & Cook

I have always been interested in health and natural ways to healing, long before my cookery training in macrobiotics and natural foods.

I first encountered macrobiotic cuisine, I was overcome by most beautiful food and cooking.  The essence of eating such pure, whole foods and creating delicious natural flavours felt so right.  I enjoyed widening my diet and restocked my kitchen with all manner of whole foods.   I began experimenting with recipes and creating a multitude of dishes.

I started feeling nourished.  My energy, skin, digestion and infact all my cells thrived on this natural way of eating.

People require delicious and healthy recipe repertoires easy to recreate for every day dining. I use a wide variety of natural ingredients, and share dishes that resonate with the body and are balanced for nutrition, taste, colour, texture, energy and more.

I embrace natural, organic, vegetarian, vegan and macrobiotic food for the wonderful taste, vibrant energy, complete nutrients and powerful benefits to health.

I founded Wholefood Harmony in 2009 to teach the preparation of such foods rich in whole grains, pulses and local, seasonal vegetables with no added fat, sugar or preservatives.

Through Cookery Classes, Food & Health Coaching, and the highly acclaimed online Pure Cook’s Training I apply the wisdom of natural food and Eastern medicine to modern living.  I work with people wanting to develop their eating style, including health and healing practitioners, body work teachers and therapists.

Author of Pure Baby: Give A Beautiful Beginning, I also work with women from pre pregnancy through motherhood to support healthy eating for them and their loved ones.

With sensitivity to the body’s energy, I craft individual food frameworks and life suggestions to promote growth, health and radiance.

When we live a master of our eating, the heart aligned to our higher self, we live with boundless love.

Dynamic by Nature was born out of Judy Chamber’s desire to inspire the world with her passion for healthy living and healthy eating.

Judy Chambers is a graduate of the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, a professional member of the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants and is a Nationally Certified Personal Trainer.

She focuses on natural living as a dynamic evolving path, integrating her expertise in physical fitness – specifically core conditioning and functional strength – along with her natural nutritional consulting practice where she engages our awareness of the food we eat as an essential indicator of our overall health.

Judy uses principles and assessment techniques from Eastern Medicine, alongside a careful interpretation of modern science and an intuitive sensibility for holistic living.  She is also a playful gourmet chef who infuses natural foods with taste, style and – most importantly for the modern multi-taskers - ease.

Judy lives in scenic, active Kitsilano, Vancouver and loves to play outdoors on the wide, west coast.  Her passion for healthful activity and desire to constantly challenge herself have lead her to engage in a range of athletic endeavours from competitive ice-skating and professional dance to international fitness championships.  Not one to sit still for long, she has also explored eco-adventure racing, surf-yoga retreats & trekking globally.

Spending time in the water while wrapped in sunshine is one of her favourite ways to zen out… as is summer yoga at Kit’s beach.

I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, graduated from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, Vancouver, BC in 2010 with Distinguished Merit! I also hold a Master of Science degree in Foods and Nutrition form Delhi University, India. I have a passion for nutrition, a natural ability and a strong desire to share the knowledge with others. I come from New Delhi, the fast paced metropolitan capital of India, but I have carried over my ancestral cooking style and philosophy of food over to Vancouver, BC. My passion for food has evolved to encompass a philosophy that focuses on whole and natural foods intended to nourish and promote health and wellbeing. I aspire to help people restore balance and create wellness in their lives. I believe that most chronic illnesses stem from improper digestion and malnutrition.

My lifelong fascination with food and the sudden increase of kids with allergies ultimately lead my curiosity towards nutrition and healing. I attended the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, Vancouver campus, which opened a whole new world of awareness. I would love to share all my knowledge and awareness with others.

I offer individual and group nutritional counseling to help people identify imbalances in their diet and lifestyle. I can design personalized programs as per lifestyle, culture and health issues! Focusing on unprocessed, whole foods, I will help make real life food choices fun!

I am available for cooking classes on healthy eating specific to different age groups and health conditions.

Recently I hosted as series of healthy cooking classes for young kids 6-9 years of age which proved that Nutrition is very important to every person and teaching it as early as preschool years is an excellent idea. Lifelong healthy eating habits are shaped largely by an early exposure to sound nutrition education. Children who are taught nutrition early in life develop an interest in healthy living for the rest of their lives!

I also teach traditional Healthy Indian cooking for adults.

I host nutrition workshops including cooking demonstrations on various health related topics such as diabetes, arthritis, menopause, heart health, allergies, insomnia, osteoporosis, breast cancer, and healthy aging at the Minoru Place Senior Activity center and Cambie Community Center in Richmond.

I was one of the proud exhibitors at the Activate Wellness Fair for Seniors in Richmond, hosted by the City of Richmond in 2011, where I talked about managing various health conditions holistically as well as demonstrated a few healthy dishes for Seniors!

I hosted an eye-opening workshop for seniors on “100 Mile Diet” at the Minoru Place Senior Activity Center in June 2011.

I am proud to be part of the teaching faculty at CSNN (Canadian School of natural Nutrition), Vancouver, where I teach courses in Fundamentals of Nutrition, Symptomatology and Preventive Nutrition.

Originally I studied macrobiotics in Switzerland and London in the early 90s.  Since then I continually studied, especially with Tomio Kikuchi in Brazil, and in my daily observations. I have a very holistic, integrated and leveraged understanding and can help you constructively create new habits that are natural to follow, easy to understand and profoundly about your ownership of the decisions you make. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing the confirmations I have made over many years. Last year I updated my MBA accreditation, so I am fully up to date.

The body is an incredible self-healing organism. When we learn to eat sensibly and consciously it literally has more time and space for healing. In combination with incremental lifestyle changes this can bring deep rewards.

Thanks for visiting my website, I’m Marina and I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist.

The positive impact of nutrition

After making it my mission to uncover the cause of many serious health adversities that I was faced with (see About section for details), I was amazed and delighted at the positive impact nutrition had on my life; the other thing I noticed is that sometimes we are not aware of how bad we feel until it improves; that may be because feeling poorly has always been part of our life and we don’t know any different or we learn to adapt to things like digestive discomfort, fatigue, mood swings, allergies, inability to lose weight, aches and pains, etc., that we don’t even notice them anymore. Basically we stop listening to our bodies or we just attribute it to aging. We need to change our belief and realize that aging is not synonymous with illness and that our body can repair itself if we give it what it needs. I wanted to share my excitement with everyone about how rewarding and attainable good health and vitality are, so I went back to school and became a practitioner to fulfill my passion to help others learn how to listen to their bodies and know what to do to enjoy improved health.

What can I do for you?

My nutritional assessment is a whole body approach based on my knowledge of how the body, mind, and spirit are interconnected; it involves listening to your concerns, checking all your body systems and how they are impacting each other. Each individual is biochemically different and has unique nutritional requirements in order to achieve optimal health.

Personalized for your life and health goals

I can coach and counsel you on how you can obtain the ideal balance for your health and your life. I will assess you and create an individualized nutritional and lifestyle protocol that is customized to suit your lifestyle and optimize your health. I offer support in a variety of ways including:

  • One on one consultations – this is your time, it’s about you
  • Genetic testing – to determine a predisposed risk to certain condition and deficiencies
  • Joining you at the grocery store
  • Being available to you for questions and support, via email, text, or phone
  • Making referrals to other health care Practitioners as needed
  • At your request, consulting with your doctor or other health professionals

IF YOU’RE NOT SURE THIS IS FOR YOU, CONTACT ME FOR A FREE 15 MINUTE CONSULTATION.

Increased vitality and longevity

Prevention is key, ideally early assessment is determined before pathology, this can lead to increased vitality and longevity. I’m a member of CAHN-Pro (Canadian Association of Holistic Nutritionist Professionals) and I adhere to their code of ethics and scope of practice. I look forward to getting to know you and being part of your journey towards whole body health.

Take care, Marina Silverio, RHN

My Story

Hello, and welcome to Jessica Mitton Holistic Nutrition. Here is a little bit of information about my personal nutrition story and how I came to be a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Culinary Nutrition Expert.

Holistic nutrition is a huge part of my life these days, but that wasn’t always the case. By the age of thirty, I’d already had a pretty successful career working with a financial institution. While this may seem like a polar opposite pursuit, the common thread is that of helping people. Before, I was helping people with their money choices and challenges. Now I’m helping people with their nutritional, spiritual and lifestyle choices and challenges.

I actually really enjoyed banking, but towards the end of my time in that job, I was tired, anemic, nutrient deficient, lacking energy, overweight and constantly constipated. I had digestive issues, was stressed and anxious, and was eventually diagnosed with a massive uterine fibroid tumour, making me look about four months pregnant (yes, it was that big) and leaving me with a very poor quality of life. Not only did I have a honeydew melon-sized mass growing inside my lady parts and squeezing the good out of my other internal organs; I also had a cyst on one of my ovaries and one in my breast. My hormones were running amok!

Something had to be done, but despite my best efforts to seek help and advice about treating my conditions, the fibroid just kept on growing. It was out of control and too dangerous to wait any longer. I was left with no choice but to undergo surgery to have the fibroid – and along with it, my uterus – removed. I couldn’t believe it! How could somebody still in their 20’s find herself being forced to get a hysterectomy? I was so frustrated and afraid.

So I made a vow to myself: No more surgeries to remove any body parts, thank you very much! This resonated all the more because my family history was littered with such surgeries. The writing was on the wall, and it certainly had my attention (a melon-sized mass growing inside you will have that effect!) It was a huge wake-up call and set me on a mission to find out what I could do to help myself live a healthy, vibrant and (hopefully) surgery-free life.

I decided that once my surgery was out of the way and my recovery complete, I would start living life to the fullest. I would change my career and focus all my energy and efforts on my new passion. I would follow my heart, become a holistic nutritionist and spend my time truly helping others.

On a personal level, these choices and this wholly new lifestyle have had dramatic positive effects. In this new life, I have seen my cysts disappear, my energy levels skyrocket, and my nutrient deficiencies disappear. I have shed the excess weight and no longer suffer from the digestive issues I had before. My stress levels have leveled out to something more akin to normality, my anxiety has decreased, and I’m able to come at everyday challenges with vim and vigour. Life, in short, is great!

Are you ready to let me help you create a vibrant and healthy life for yourself? Please check out my contact page and get in touch to begin your new journey of happiness and health!

I can’t wait to help you get started.

In love and health,

I am passionate about cultivating inner peace, increasing vitality, preventing disease, and living the life of your dreams through conscious eating, exercise, yoga, and connecting to nature. I am a girl working on becoming whole and discovering my truth while following the sun, and guiding people towards their own wholeness and greatness along the way.

I haven’t always been healthy. I have struggled with eating disorders, addictive behaviour, emotional pain, and physical pain. I have explored many roads in an effort to heal my body and my heart. It hasn’t been easy. But where I find myself now is the happiest and healthiest place I have been in my entire life. I am empowered, I am more free to express myself, and I know with utmost certainty that I am doing what I was put on this Earth to do. Every day I continue to strive towards health and peace, while enjoying the journey the best way I know how, and trying to teach people what I have learned along the way. Being healthy is fun and life has never been more enjoyable! When you feel good and look good, you radiate good energy, and see life with different eyes. The more self-aware I become, the better life gets.

I have also watched my dad beat cancer by completely changing his nutrition and attitude towards life. To my amazement, and the amazement of his doctors, he became cancer-free after being told he had less than 10 months to live. I have seen with my own eyes the healing power of nutrient dense foods, the strength of a positive mind, and the tenacity of spirit. I have been inspired by my father as a daughter, as a human being, and as a nutritionist. Food heals. Yoga heals. Love heals. Nature heals.

Many years as a serious athlete competing at an international level, has also left me with injuries and imbalances in my body. Yoga has helped me correct these imbalances so that I feel stronger, and have more comfort and ease within my body. The practice and philosophy of yoga has also taught me how to use the mind to not only to improve sports performance, but any life performance.

Two years ago I spent six months studying and working in the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in the Bahamas. I decided that I was breaking up with winter and continued to head to warmer, tropical climates. I decided I needed to create a life that I LOVED. I headed to Central America to explore and teach yoga, but have become so captivated by the natural beauty of Nicaragua that I haven’t left. I work at the most stunning spot in the rainforest, living in a beautiful treehouse with monkeys and birds, right by the ocean. It is always summer in my world!

I teach yoga, provide nutrition classes, and personal train clients here. I also do my own Gracious Living retreats that incorporate all these things, plus surfing and volcano trekking, throughout Nicaragua, and around the world. (Please see my calendar page for updates.) Teaching people how to lead happier lives by learning how to reconnect with themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually is the most amazing thing for me and I feel blessed that I can share this.

Throughout my journey over the last few years I have taught yoga at various studios around the world, on beautiful beaches, on top of volcanoes, overlooking oceans, in the country, in the city, at high end resorts, treehouse resorts, surf camps, golf courses, international embassies in other countries, ashrams, orphanages, prisons, schools, offices, dysfunctional youth programs, rehab facilities, people who have never done yoga, people who have done a lot of yoga, athletes, children, seniors, even physically challenged people. Anyone and everyone benefits from yoga.

I feel that my combination of life experiences and education, the suffering and triumphs I have endured, and my dedication to my own personal growth and self awareness every single day, makes me a motivating, compassionate, and devoted wellness coach. I teach from the heart. I am happiest when I am helping others discover their own truth. My goal is to guide you to optimal health so that you can flourish in every moment of your life. I invite you to relax, recharge, and rejuvenate, while exploring a new, pristine country.

My name is Penny Ormsbee.  I am a Registered Holistic Nutritional Consultant, MSA Practitioner, and as well, I have been trained and certified in The Management of Menopause Type® Program - a holistic model that has been helping individuals for over 20 years. I am a graduate of the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition where I also worked as an instructor for several years.  I am a member in good standing with the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants (www.ionc.org) Since graduating in 2004 I have spent a great deal of time on research and continuing education.  I have a particular interest in hypothyroidism, nutrient deficiencies, adrenal fatigue, digestive disorders, and food sensitivities.  I love my work and I am sincerely committed to empowering others to consciously and holistically manage their health. My amazing husband Keith is my biggest fan. He is wonderfully supportive, tests all my potions and recipes, and he is the one who  makes sure I take time for myself.  I have two great step children and an adorable family cat named Weezy.  We live in the  heart of Halifax in a 110 year old house with lots  of character and stories to tell.  Apart from my work, I love reading, knitting anything from socks to lace, preparing nutritious food, writing children's poetry, and enjoying time with my family.     Caring for and helping others has been imbedded in my soul from a very young age, I think.  From organizing food drives to raising money through Christmas caroling for the less fortunate, giving of myself always came naturally for me.  After moving into a new neighbourhood at the age of 10, I befriended an elderly woman.  I loved to visit with her and help with her chores, and in high school when my friends were babysitting, I was enjoying my job at a nursing home helping to care for the elderly.   At sixteen I dreamed of opening a health food store and promoting a healthy lifestyle, but my future led me to an education in business administration and eventually to the corporate world.  Around 1988 my health started to fail, and over the next two years I became lethargic, my hair fell out in clumps, my memory was failing me, and my heart rate and breathing became shallow and erratic.  My doctor, who I visited often in those days kept telling me I was suffering from job stress.  In 1990 and in desperation, I made an appointment with Dr. Elisabeth Gold, a new doctor in town who was quick to diagnose me with severely advanced autoimmune thyroid disease. My thyroid was working only one-quarter of what it should have been.  A normal TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) reading is anywhere from 0.35 to 5.5, and mine was 74.0.  Keeping in mind that the higher the reading, the lower the thyroid function.  You can imagine how grateful I was to have found this doctor.  We immediately started treatment and slowly but surely, I started to feel better. This experience led me to learn as much as possible about thyroid disease, which  has become a special interest of mine. As I became more knowledgeable and more focussed on becoming healthier, I noticed that as I improved my diet, better managed my stress, and made more positive lifestyle changes, I needed less thyroid medication.  I will never be able to stop my medication completely but I'm happy knowing I do have a lot of control over my health and how I feel.  Once I regained my health, I eventually left that job and moved on to work in a leadership role for a prominent market research company here in Halifax.  Over time, I found my work to be overly regimented and unfulfilling, so at the age of 42, I decided to enroll in the Natural Nutrition Program (part-time studies) with The Canadian School of Natural Nutrition.  Initially, it was for my personal interest only, but it didn’t take long to realize this was the area of work I was destined for.   This was what I was meant to do.   I graduated in 2004 with an Award of Merit and immediately set up a part-time practice whi

WELCOME!

We are all on a journey toward optimal health, and changing what (and how!) we eat plays a significant role in whether we are able to experience that optimal health. Sometimes changing what we eat and how we live is driven by a scary diagnosis, sometimes it comes when we don’t feel our best and our doctors can’t seem to find anything wrong, and sometimes we simply want to know the best way to eat for our specific body. There is lots of conflicting information out there about health and wellness, which can be really confusing. I can help.

My name is Jess and I am thrilled that you are here. Take a minute to get to know me, my approach, and the services I offer. You’ll also find lots of great health and wellness info in the blog section. I am looking forward to getting to know you and helping you feel your best!

(Please allow up to 2 days processing time.  We work hard to make sure you receive the freshness you deserve)!
  •  Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are our SHIP DAYS and packages are mailed with 2 or 3 Day Delivery!

  •  Butters Melt In Extreme Heat!  Why is this important?  Because during summer months when temperatures are extremely high, whipped body butter has a tendency to "melt" during shipping.  If that happens, just place your jar in the fridge for a few minutes to allow it to re-solidify.  This does not effect the quality of the product, it's still gonna be delicious!  We just want you to keep that in mind if you order Whipped Body Butter during the summer.  You may also want to consider using our Queen and King's Oils during this time, as they are in bottles and are already liquids!
  •  Your satisfaction means everything at NaturalSelf Skincare and we really truly appreciate having you as a customer!  Please feel free to always communicate with us about anything that you feel is important.  We want to meet your needs!
