'Ayurveda Shastra' (आयुर्वेद शास्त्र) defines Shata Dhauta Ghrita as cow’s ghee, washed 100 times with cold water.
It's effects (गुणाः) in the shastras are defined as (cooling potency) शीतलम्, स्निग्धम् (nourishing), मृदु (complexion enhancing), त्वच्यं (soothing), वातपित्तहरम् (promoting wound healing). It pacifies the effects of heat (pitta) & dryness and roughness (vata) on the skin.
