When imbalanced, pitta dominated body is the first one to show severe signs of skin sensitivity, irritation, acne, rashes, hives acidity, heartburn, indigestion, anger and impatience.
Vata Skin: Sensitive skin, sunburn, dark burnt oily complexion is often associated with pitta personality types. Diet for Radiant Pitta:
Pitta imbalances manifest on skin as redness, rashes, rosacea, freckles, acne, burning sensation, suntan, sunburn, dullness and oily skin. This same energy manifests in pitta dominated body-mind as acidity, gastric issues, heartburn, diarrhea, fever, hot flashes and anger.
Diet and lifestyle that keeps the fire element in control with cooling and nourishing foods helps to control the heated pitta energy. Abide by these rules of Ayurveda to attain internal balance that reflects outwards as radiance:
- Avoid or reduce hot and spicy, fried, sour and high salt foods.
- Avoid acidic beverages such as alcohol, coffee, vinegar and soda.
- Avoid skipping or delaying meals.
- It is best to have heaviest meal of the day at lunchtime by 12.30 PM. Dinner must be consumed by 7 pm.
- Include sweet, bitter and astringent foods in diet that include juicy fruits, cherries, cucumbers, watermelon and avocados.
- Ample water helps cool high internal heat in pittas.
- Nourishing foods for Pittas include hydrating meals cooked with grains such as barley, jasmine white rice, oats, wheat and quinoa. Good oils for pittas include coconut oil and olive oil. Potent herbs for pittas include cilantro, basil, black pepper, fennel, cardamom, saffron, turmeric and cumin. Fruits are cooling in nature and are great addition for pittas. Include bananas, mangoes, sweet grapes, melons, coconut and pomegranate in diet regularly.
